Itinerary:
Day 1: Kampala-Kisoro/Mgahinga National Park (Travel Time +9hrs)
Our guide/driver picks you at 7:30 am from your hotel or place of residence in Entebbe or Kampala. Drive to Mbarara (283km from Kampala) via Masaka. Make a first stop over at Equator crossing for snacks and photography. Proceed with a visit to Igongo Cultural village this is more rewarding and amazing as you visit the Ankole museum. Lunch break is made at Agip Motel Mbarara. After lunch, drive to Mgahinga Gorilla National Park. This is the lushest highland rain forest on earth, filled with primates and exotic birds, valleys, hilltops and papyrus swamps. Dinner and overnight stay at Mt. Gahinga Lodge (High end facility) or Kisoro Travelers Rest Hotel (Budget facility) Meal plan: Lunch and Dinner
Day 2: Mgahinga Gorilla Trekking
Begin the day with breakfast ready for Mgahinga gorilla wildlife safari, which begins at 8:00 am with a briefing from the UWA staff. Ensure to carry along with you rain jacket, drinking water, snacks, jungle boots etc. The guides will lead you inside the jungle to see the shy primates for a group you have been booked for, so do not forget to take your lunch boxes and all the necessary gear to track the rare Mountain Gorilla, perhaps one of the most exciting wildlife experiences on earth. The tracking may take between 2 and 6 hours but it’s well worth the effort. The afternoon, time permitting take on a local village foot safari to learn and share the life style of the local communities living around the park. Meals and overnight at Mt. Day 3: Mgahinga Golden Monkey Trekking
Today is dedicated for golden monkey trekking in Mgahinga Gorilla National Park. Golden Monkey trekking starts at 8.00am. There is brief orientation on what to expect and what to do or not to do while in the forest. You are then separated into groups with guides and off you go tracking monkeys in the bamboo forest. The uniqueness of Golden monkeys, are unique in appearance. They have attractive outstanding colours, close to gold, hence the name. They are very playful and move quite fast, so if you want to take pictures you need to make sure you are steady and fast. Most of them are used to humans so they will not run away if they see people. Day 4: Mgahinga National Park – Queen Elizabeth National Park
Early morning drive north in to Queen Elizabeth National Park. The journey takes about +5 hours but driving through interesting features. Lunch enroute at your choice of hotel. Continue to Queen Elizabeth National Park arriving in the evening for an ample sunset game drive. Dinner and overnight stay at Mweya Safari Lodge (High end) or Enganzi Lodge (Budget facility) Meal plan: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner
Day 5: Queen Elizabeth National Park
Begin your day with a cup of coffee. Start off with an early morning game drive along Kasenyi and Queens Mile makes visitors encounter elephants, buffalo, water bucks, warthogs, lions, Uganda Kobs lakes and a variety of birds. After lunch, take on an afternoon Launch cruise along Kazinga Channel – one that joins Lakes Edward and George. This boat cruise is wonderful because it gives a great opportunity to see hippos, buffaloes, Kobs and the occasional Nile crocodile (which up until recently did not inhabit this area) and a spectacular bird watching on the water bank. Many who experience the launch cruise consider it the high light of their entire African safari. Day 6: Queen Elizabeth – Entebbe Out
Morning is dedicated for a drive back to Kampala using Kasese-Fort Portal road with an enroute stop over at the Equator line in Kasese. Enjoy the winding scenery of the foot hills of Mt. Rwenzori arriving in Fort Portal for lunch thereafter continue to Kampala or Entebbe for your outgoing flight back home or to your nest destination.
