Border trail Mgahinga is a moderate walk to Uganda border with Democratic Republic of Congo done in the lower slopes of Mount Sabyinyo. The hiking adventures leads visitors via lush montane forest prior reaching to the side of Democratic Republic of Congo. Then catching a glimpse of the stunning views of Sabinyo gorge and its peaks, which takes five hours through different vegetation types.
This gives a chance for travelers to meet and interact with wild animals such as golden monkeys, duikers, mountain gorillas and many bird species.
While on the border trail Mgahinga trip, travelers can also hike up to the caldera at the top of Gisozi hill which rewards you with spectacular views of the Mgahinga Gorilla National Park, the neighboring Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, Virunga volcanoes and the adjacent communities.

This 4-hour hiking trail also involves going through the Montane forest on Mount Sabinyo, which will lead you towards the border of DRC. As you arrive to Congo line, this where you will follow the international border line for about 2 kilometers where you will find 2 rest huts, then you may have a chance to sight some of the rare golden monkeys along the way, which doesn’t require any visa. The golden monkey is a gentle steep but an interesting primate.
Hiking the volcanoes can be done during the morning hours because it can be really tiring especially if you are not an expert hiker.
